Add-On Workshops
We are happy to offer two add-on options for participants: An Electronic Music Mini-Camp and a Music Business and Entrepreneurship Workshop. Hosted by composer, sound-artist, author and entrepreneur Dr. J Anthony Allen, these add-ons are open to all composers and music creators. These sessions may be combined or selected individually.
Electronic Music Mini-Camp
The mini camp is framed out as a hands-on session over two days prior to the start of the composition program. Dr. Allen is also an Ableton certified trainer and will guide composers and creators starting with a “deep dive” of Ableton Live, working on aspects of sound design, electronic and electroacoustic composition, live interactivity and more. Use of object oriented programming tools such as Max/MSP and Max4Live will also be covered. Students will have time, if desired, to focus their work on their own individual projects with the assistance of Dr. Allen. High-speed WiFi and fully working demo versions of the software will be made available. Furthermore, all participants will get a discount coupon code for purchasing their own copy of Ableton Live Suite.
NOTE: All participants must bring their own laptop computer (Macintosh or Windows).
Music Business and Entrepreneurship
Workshop for Composers
Designed for any composer or music creator who is working towards making a living with their music, or who just want to know how best to navigate the music industry and market for their music. This workshop will cover essential topics such as copyright, trademark, performance royalties, licensing, streaming, sync opportunities, marketing and promotion, and more. By the end of the workshop participants should have a clear understanding of the necessary steps to ensure they are properly compensated for their work going forward. Spanning a group workshop session and supplemented with individual one-on-one consultations with Dr. Allen.
